A woman’s words are her most powerful source of influence…words spoken in prayer or deposited into the lives of those around her. James describes the power of the tongue as a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body, which corrupts the whole person, setting the whole course of his life on fire and is itself set on fire by @#!*% (James 3:6) He says, “No man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). We can choose words of life and blessing or word which destroy and tear down. Is it possible to speak blessing into a world filled with the curse of sin? If so, what will that look like? I believe many women do have hearts to please God but have not been taught to recognize patterns of speech and self-talk which displease Him. We have critical attitudes and worrisome words which create negative environments in our homes and other places of influence. We gossip and lie just as those who do not know Christ and have access to the Holy Spirit’s power. What are the keys to becoming women of blessing whose conversation transforms the world around them? What are the sounds of silence that reflect a wise heart? How does one replace negative self-talk with “God-talk?”
God has a strong opinion about the influence of words in the world. During our weekend we will examine many scripture passages on the subject. We will look at what God has spoken into our lives and how He intends for us to speak into other lives. James reminds us that God takes our words seriously when he writes, Do not complain brethren, against one another, that you yourselves may not be judged: behold, the Judge is standing right at the door (James 5:9).
I am absolutely convinced that lives will be changed forever for those who take the time to come apart for a while to discover the keys to becoming a woman who speaks WORDS OF LIFE into her world.
